Position Location:

STC Client site located in the Maryland/Virginia/Washington, D.C., area.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering (or equivalent work experience), plus 5+ years database development focused on high volume data storage and retrieval applications. 

Security Clearance Requirements:

Candidate is required to possess an active TOP SECRET/SCI clearance and the ability to pass a CI polygraph.

Position Overview:

STC is seeking a highly adaptable, self-starting, Data Ccientist with proficiency in RDBMS and SQL and NO SQL data storage technologies.  The candidate will use RDBMS facilities and features including GEO Spatial Indexing.  The candidate should be skilled in writing SQL and PL/SQL.  Other technologies of interest include Accumulo, POSTgres, Elastic Search and Cassandra. The qualified candidate should understand the strengths and weaknesses of different storage technologies and be able to assess them relative to data type, volume and usage scenarios.  Of particular importance is knowledge of different access control models and technologies including ABAC, RBAC, and data security.  Practical hands-on experience with migrating data from Oracle to alternative data storage technologies is very desirable.

This person filling this role will be creating and modifying database structures and software as part of a small, fast paced team. Selection and assessment of alternative data storage technologies will include installation and experimentation. 


Required Qualifications:

The Candidate must have:

  • RDBMS experience with SQL and NO SQL data storage and indexing technologies.
  • Full working knowledge of database components:  storage/table spaces, schemas, indices, partitions, aliases, constraints,      and triggers.

Desired Qualifications:

The ideal Candidate will also have the ability to understand:

  • Performance factors of database design decisions and techniques for improving performance.
  • Fundamentals of Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) mechanisms and have experience in implementing them for high volume transactions.
  • Strengths and weaknesses of alternative SQL and NO SQL data storage technologies.
  • Geospatial and temporal indexing  and/or partitioning mechanisms.

Less than 10 percent travel anticipated
